After the seventies, after a celebration of "post-modernism" which reflected the experimentation of the times— American fiction returned to a more literal form. Juncture is a book of writers (inter alia Jonathan Lethem, Heather McGowan, Colson Whitehead, Alex Shakar, Carl Hancock Rux, and Ben Marcus) who have skipped a generation and embracd literary experimentation: absurdist, stream-of-consciousness, science fiction, based in rhythm with the influence of poetry. This collection reflects not only the jagged rhythms of contemporary American writing but also of American life itself with all its hyphenations, its immigrants and its migrants; their editors are Filipino-American and Mexican-American respectively.
The inclusion of original art and drawings reflects the kinds of cultural hybridization that has driven many of these writers in the first place. Although the inclusion of art is commonplace in America’s leading literary journals, no contemporary literary anthologies have seriously attempted to emulate this tradition.

Lara Stapleton’s short story collection The Lowest Blue Flame Before Nothing (Aunt Lute, 1998) was a Pen Open Book Committee Selection and an Independent Bookseller’s Selection. She is the recipient of The Columbia Journal Fiction Award, a Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation Grant, and a two-time winner of the Hopwood award for Fiction. Her stories, essays, and articles have been published widely in magazines, including Glimmer Train, and The Antioch Review. Her essay "Liberating the Immigrant Novel," has been listed as a recommended teaching tool by Poets and Writers who originally published it in January of 2001. She has taught at Long Island University for seven years.
Veronica Gonzalez’s fiction has appeared in Green Mountain Review, Massachusettes Review and in the anthology New World: Young Latino Writers. She is fiction editor of Inflatable Magazine which has featured the writing of Lynne Tillman, Chris Kraus, Maureen Owen, Benjamin Weissman and Deran Ludd, as well as the art work of Lawrence Weiner and Dan Graham. A summa cum laude graduate in Art History at UCSD, Gonzalez received a full fellowship to NYU’s writing program from which she graduated in 1994.
