Happy post-Thanksgiving from Soft Skull, and welcome back to work!

Here is some info about a few events happening this week and next. This Thursday, David Rees, creator of Get Your War on, will be explaining the history of the Iraq War entirely through cartoons at the Melville House Bookstore in DUMBO; next week Cristy C. Road will be doing a reading at Bluestockings Bookstore in the East Village (Monday) and if you miss her then, you can catch her at WORD in Greenpoint, Brooklyn on Wednesday. Lastly: if you haven't done so already, don't forget to check out the "Signs of Change" exhibit (curated by Soft Skull author Josh Macphee) before it ends this Saturday!

More details about the who what whens and hows below:

DAVID REES

This Thursday at 7PM, David Rees will be at the Melville House Bookstore (located at 145 Plymouth St, at Pearl St, DUMBO, Brooklyn). His definitive new collection, 'Get Your War On', is a historical narrative of the War On Terror through sardonic and brilliantly perceptive cartoons -- as the New York Times called it, "A glorious excoriation of our post-9/11 loony bin".

Free admission.

CRISTY C. ROAD

On Dec 8th (a week from today) at 7PM, Cristy C Road will be reading from her new illustrated punk rock book Bad Habits: A love Story at Bluestockings Books (172 Allen St., New York, NY.). Praised as "A party on the page, or a riot, or a revolution" by Michelle Tea, writer / punk / zine publisher Cristy Road combines edgy black-and-white illustrations with an equally transgressive and unique literary voice to create the "burgeoning multi-media empire" that is 'Bad Habits'. Free admission. For more info: http://www.bluestockings.com/events.html

MATTILDA AND CRISTY C. ROAD
Can't get enough of Cristy? Come to WORD (Greenpoint 126 Franklin Street Brooklyn, NY) on next Wednesday at 7 PM, where Cristy will be reading with Mattilda (editor of 'That’s Revolting! Queer Strategies for Resisting Assimilation', and the new release from City Lights, So Many Ways to Sleep Badly). For more info: http://wordbrooklyn.wordpress.com/

JOSH MACPHEE

Josh Macphee, author of 'Stencil Pirates: A Global Study of the Street Stencil' and editor of 'Reproduce and Revolt', is now curating the exhibit "Signs of Change" at Exit Art. The show is the culmination of years of research tracking down a 1000 posters, videos, photos, textiles, and other ephemera from social movements from around the world; it is an impressive attempt to chronicle the artistic and cultural production of political groups and counter-cultures from the past few decades. Exit Art is located at 475 Tenth Avenue, corner of 36th Street, and the opening times of the exhibit are as follows:

Tues. Dec 2 - Fri. Dec 5th, 10am-6pm
FINAL DAY: Saturday Dec 6, noon-8pm

This is the last chance to see the show before it moves to the Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh) so be sure to pop by for a look!

See you there,
